1. Educational base
I studied at the Marine Engineering Faculty of Odessa National Maritime Academy (since renamed «Odessa Maritime Academy» — NU«OMA») and graduated with honours in 2004, specializing in Marine Power Plant Operation. Immediately after obtaining my Master’s degree, I enrolled in postgraduate studies at NU«OMA», which I completed in July 2008.
In 2008, I completed a Transport and Logistics Management course funded by the European Community under the Tempus project VETLOG (IB_JEP 26080 2005).
On 13 October 2011, I defended my dissertation titled “Technical Improvement of Pipe-line Vessels” and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
From 1 September 2021 to 31 August 2023, I was enrolled as a doctoral student at NU OMA.
2. Professional Development
• Since 2002, I am a member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), UK (https://www.imarest.org ).
• Since 2015, I have served as Honorary Secretary of the IMarEST Odessa Branch, Ukraine (https://www.imarest.org/group/odessa.html.
• My membership category in IMarEST is Fellow, and I also hold recognition as a Chartered Engineer (https://www.engc.org.uk/professional-registration/check-a-registration).
• Since October 2013, I hold a Chief Engineer Officer’s Certificate of Competency.
• Since August 2015, I’ve been a sub-committee member of the International Conference on Engine Room Simulators. (http://www.imla.co/icers.html)
• In 2017, I organized and chaired the 13th International Conference on Engine Room Simulators at NU«OMA».
• Since October 2018, I act as an evaluator for research project proposals at the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) (https://iamu-edu.org/?s=Sergey+Karianskyi).
• From 1 Jan 2019 to 31 Jan 2023, I was an evaluator at the Odessa branch of Crossworld Marine Services (https://www.crossworldmarine.com/ ).
• Since March 2019, I have served on the IMarEST Council (https://www.imarest.org/about-us/governance/council/council-members.html).
• From 25 April 2019, I’ve been a member of the scientific and methodical commission (subcommission) of the higher education sector of the Scientific and Methodical Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (https://mon.gov.ua/storage/app/media/vyshcha/naukovo-metodychna_rada/Normativni%20acty/2019/05/%20756.rar). • From October 2021 to January 2024, I served as Honorary Papers & Activities Chair of the International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA).
• Since May 2022, I’ve been on the editorial board of Maritime Research and Technology (MRT) of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) (http://apc.aast.edu/ojs/index.php/MRT/about/displayMembership/9).
• Since August 2023, I'm on the editorial board of the NU OMA journal «Судноводіння / Shipping & Navigation» (https://navjournal-nuoma.learnmarine.com/en/project/issue-v35/).
• From 2004 to present, I have combined academic duties with sea service, working via crewing agencies/companies:
• V.Ships Ukraine (container vessels, bulk carriers)
• DEME Group (dredgers, barges)
• TOS Ukraine (tugs)
• SEACOR Marine (jack-up barges; ARAMCO ID 8495787)
I successfully combined my sea service with my work at NU«OMA».
